Nomos Watches History
Two months after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Roland Schwertner, an IT expert, and photographer from Dusseldorf, registered the trademark NOMOS Glashütte/SA. IN 1992, NOMOS Glashütte first collection came out. NOMOS has three sites in the watchmaking landmark, Glashütte. With approximately 20 thousand pieces count as its annual production, the company has focused since its beginnings on manufacturing mechanical timepieces with hand-wind movements.
Since 2005, NOMOS has used in-house movements. The first automatic NOMOS watch, the Tangomat, was first introduced in the summer of 2005. Recently the company has developed Neomatik (“new movement”) movement. These movements are extremely flat and give the Brand a point of reference for spotless design and functionality. Tow gold models were introduced in 2013, the Lambda and the Lux.
In 2014, the company unveiled its own in-house escapement, known as the NOMOS swing system, which made it no longer reliant on Swiss manufacturers. This new component was gradually introduced into NOMOS’ caliber range.
Since 2016, the company has focused on upgrading its caliber range with the NOMOS swing system. The newest movement, DUW 6101, or “Neomatik date”, was introduced in 2018. In this year the company also introduced the models Autobahn and Tangente Update, which debuted the Neomatik date caliber.
Although a relatively new Brand, with less than 30 years on the market, NOMOS Glashütte takes an outstanding place in the watchmaking industry defined by its precision, functionality, pristine design and exceptional beauty.
