Cartier Watches History

The Cartier watch company began in Paris, France in 1847 when Louis Francois Cartier continued and took over his master's workshop. His son, Alfred took over the Cartier company in 1874 and together with his sons Louis, Pierre, and Jacques made the brand more successful and recognized internationally.

Cartier expanded its market internationally and in 1907 created the first men's wristwatch. Cartier made Parisians accept wristwatches as a replacement for pocketwatches. In 1917, the Carteir Tank was launched and was inspired by the great war machines of the Allied forces who helped defend France during World War I. It has been in production for more than 90 years (continued below)
