Baume and Mercier Brief History

Baume & Mercier is a Swiss Watchmaking company founded in 1830 by Louis Victor and Pierre-Joseph-Celestin Baume. In 1912, new and exciting things for Baume and Mercier was happening as it was in this year that William Baume, a second generation Baume, met the watchmaker and jeweler Paul Mercier at the Geneva watch and jewerly shop in Haas. The meeting between the two would eventually lead to a partnership and signing for the launching of Baume and Mercier in Geneva on November 26,1918. After World War II, Baume and Mercier shifted its focus on conventional watches, chronographs and ladies jewerly watches. 1965 saw the takeover of the Piaget company, outbidding international competition and also saw the shift on using electronic tuning fork movements.

Baume and Mercier Milestones and Awards 

Baume and Mercier is represented  in 75 countries and has 220 excusive retail stores worldwide.  It reproduces 200,000 watches a year and is known for their sporty chronograph watches. 

In 1921, Baume and Mercier was awarded the Poincon de Geneve, an official and prestigous recognition of flawless quality products. After World War II, Baume and Mercier shifted its focus on conventional watches, chronographs and ladies jewerly watches. 1965 saw the takeover of the Piaget company, outbidding international competition and also saw the shift on using electronic tuning fork movements. 

In 1971, Baume and Mercier introduced the first tuning fork movement that placed the brand into the electronic era.  Another award in 1973 was given for Baume and Mercier's creativity in manufacturing jewerly watches by winning the Baden Baden Golden Rose in Germany. With its ingenious and rigorous designs, they are at the forefront of luxury watches.
